School of Medicine - Stethoscope Program
With your gift of $150, a first-year medical or physician assistant student will receive a stethoscope and a card bearing all donor names. Thank you for providing a warm welcome to first-year medical students!
A powerful symbol
"To me, the stethoscope is a powerful symbol of listening…and not just listening to the heart or lungs! It represents the responsibility that each physician carries to genuinely and intently listen to his or her patients. At Creighton we are trained to sit with our patients through their illness, anxiety, whatever they are experiencing; we aim to look and listen beyond their diagnosis in order to acknowledge the wholeness and dignity of each human being we encounter. And much like the white coat is a symbol of authority and knowledge, I think the stethoscope represents that unique duty and capacity to listen."
— Samantha Stoupa, BSCHM'18, MD'22
A warm welcome
At the start of medical school, each student receives a stethoscope, which they will use throughout their Creighton education and beyond. The stethoscope is not only a tool for medicine but also symbolizes your support and the camaraderie within the School of Medicine.
